July 4th Independence Day.

Cloudy and wet. Passing rain showers during forenoon. The "Tutahekai "fired pyrotechnics for 15 minutes at midnight. 

At 8:06 dressed ship in honor of the Anniversary of the Independence of the United States, and at noon fired a salute of 21 guns:


Taunanga, Tutahekai, and Cormoran doing the same as a compliment to the United States –  Taunanga, Tutahekai, and Cormoran also dressed ships. 


Crew engaged in sports during the day. Fired rockets and colored stars during the evening. Transferred 5 men to the Brutus


"Taunangua "left port at 5:00 PM the “Cormoran” following. 


The Samoan High Commission left the ship temporarily to take passage on the steamer “Tutahekai” for a trip around the islands. 


Very warm during the day.
