Itinerary of the trip of Honolulu and Samoa

April 26, 1899, Left San Francisco at 10:20 and proceeded to Honolulu. At 12 some part of engine heated and had to stop engines. Repaired at 12:15 and went ahead full speed. Passed San Francisco light ship. At 3:30 slow down to swing ship. Long swell. – Mustered at evening quarters. At 4:15 stopped swinging ship. Slowed down again at 4:20 to repair main engine, and at 5:05 went ahead full speed. Overcast and cloudy toward evening. Barometer steady.

Long at noon, bearings 122° 35’ W


April 27, 1899. Overcast early in the day. Cool. Passing rain showers. Set forestay sails, also fore and main try sails. At 9:30 mustered at quarters – divisional drills. The Captain awarded punishment to 123 men who left ship without permission, during our stay alongside Union Iron Works wharf. Begbie was discharged from the Naval Service, but reenlisted again for 4 years. Ship rolling heavily. Mack and Statz were put in irons for stealing.
