May 2. Clear to partly cloudy. Barometer falling slowly. Toward noon, clear and pleasant. Set clocks back 19 minutes. Forestay sail and main try sail was set about 10:30. At 9:30 mustered at quarters and exercised at company drill extended order. Mustered at evening quarters - physical drill. Tested search light, and found to be in good condition. Smooth sea.

May 3 – Cloudy but pleasant. Barometer rising. At 5:20 Molokai island was cited on port bow. At 6:55 stood into harbor of Honolulu. At 9:30 stopped to take a pilot aboard. Exchanged numbers with the USS "Nero" (Collier) (Left three days before us from Frisco and arrived 2 hours ahead of 'Badger'). At 9:50 dropped anchor. Sent an officer to visit US Council General – Received a visit from that official and saluted him with 9 guns as he left ship. Went to shore with Navigator to test chronometers - Mack and Statz were released from confinement. Wrote to J. Received coal barge alongside and commenced coaling. Went swimming before supper. Knocked off coaling soon after 8 PM. The Captain returned the call of the US Council General.
