June 25. Weather overcast. Barometer still falling. Captain inspected ship and crew at quarters. Generally overcast and cloudy during the day – went ashore in wherry at 3:00 and returned to ship at 5:30 – Sent a swimming party ashore. Very warm.

June 26. Overcast and cloudy. Gale blowing. Got underway at 9:15 and stood out of Pago Pago Harbor. Had quarters for inspections. Humble broke his left arm while working the steam windlass - (three men onboard broke their arms since our departure from Norfolk – one Koche – Reiley, and Humble). Heavy sea from the south. Have onboard for passage - 5 Samoan men - 3 women and 2 children. At 6:14 came to anchor at Apia Harbor. At 4:45 HMS Tauranga was sighted to the W’d. Passed HMS "Tauranga" going in – she anchored outside – “Tauranga” signaled “Consul arrived – everything quiet” - answered “thanks”. Discharged the pilot engaged for the trip and the Commissioners’ interrupts. The Samoan passengers went ashore. About midnight, the “Tauranga” got underway and stood off and on – outside.

June 27. Clear and pleasant – an officer from the German ship “Falke” reported the death of one of her petty officers – Sent funeral party ashore at 10 – Half-masted colors – at 10:30 fired a salute of 7 guns on the departure of the English Consul who paid a visit to the Captain. English flag at fore. Up to the present time, the "Badger" is the only ship in the harbor who has not had a death on board - and with God’s help, we hope we there won’t be any. The “Falke” left for Germany at 3:30. Everybody cheering.
